ܘܟܕ ܐܬܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܠܨܢܩܠܓ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܬܠܝܬܝܐ ܘܥ̈ܡܠܩܝܐ ܗܠܟܘ ܥܠ ܢܓܒ ܘܥܠ ܨܢܩܠܓ ܘܐܘܩܕܘ ܐܢܝܢ ܒܢܘܪܐ

When David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the South and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire,

ܘܫܒܘ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܒܗܝܢ ܡܢ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܪܒܐ ܘܐܡܝܬܘ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܘܕܒܪܘ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܒܐܘܪܚܗܘܢ
wshbw 'nsh' dbhyn mn zewr' wedm' lrb' w'mythw gbr' wdbrw w'zlw b'wrkhhwn
and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They didn’t kill any, but carried them off and went their way.

ܘܐܬܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܘܗܐ ܡܘܩܕܐ ܒܢܘܪܐ ܘܢܫ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܘܒ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ ܘܒ̈ܢܬܗܘܢ ܐܫܬܒܝܘ

When David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters were taken captive.

ܘܐܪܝܡ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܥܡܐ ܩܠܗܘܢ ܘܒܟܘ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܒܗܘܢ ܚܝܠܐ ܠܡܒܟܐ
w'rym dwyd wem' qlhwn wbkw edm' dl' hw' bhwn khyl' lmbk'
Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept until they had no more power to weep.

ܘܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܢܫ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܐܫܬܒܝ ܐܚܝܢܥܡ ܕܡܢ ܐܝܙܪܥܝܠ ܘܐܒܝܓܠ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܕܢܒܠ ܟܪܡܠܝܐ

David’s two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

ܘܥܩܬ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܛܒ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܡܪܘ ܥܡܐ ܠܡܪܓܡܗ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܝܬܬ ܢܦܫܗ ܕܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܥܠ ܒܢ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܘܥܠ ܒܢ̈ܬܗܘܢ ܘܚܡܣܢ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܗ
weqth ldwyd Tb mTl d'mrw em' lmrgmh mTl dmythth npshh dklh em' el bnyhwn wel bnthhwn wkhmsn dwyd bmry' 'lhh
David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܐܒܝܬܪ ܟܗܢܐ ܒܪ ܐܚܝܡܠܟ ܩܪܒ ܠܝ ܦܕܬܐ ܘܩܪܒ ܐܒܝܬܪ ܦܕܬܐ ܠܕܘܝܕ

David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

ܘܫܐܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܪܕܘܦ ܒܬܪ ܓܝܣܐ ܗܢܐ ܡܕܪܟ ܐܢܐ ܠܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܪܕܘܦ ܡܛܠ ܕܒܥܓܠ ܡܕܪܟ ܐܢܬ ܠܗ ܘܡܦܨܐ ܐܢܬ
wsh'l dwyd bmry' w'mr 'rdwp bthr gys' hn' mdrk 'n' lh w'mr lh rdwp mTl dbegl mdrk 'nth lh wmpts' 'nth
David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “If I pursue after this troop, will I overtake them?” He answered him, “Pursue, for you will surely overtake them, and will without fail recover all.”

ܘܐܙܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܗܘ ܘܫܬܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܥܡܗ ܘܐܬܘ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܢܚܠܐ ܕܒܘܨܪ ܘܫܒܩ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܐ̈ܬܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ
w'zl dwyd hw wshthm'' gbryn demh w'thw edm' lnkhl' dbwtsr wshbq dwyd m'thyn gbryn
So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed.

ܘܩܡ ܪܕܦ ܕܘܝܕ ܗܘ ܘܐܪ̈ܒܥܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܩܡܘ ܡܐ̈ܬܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܦܫܘ ܘܢܛܪܘ ܕܠܐ ܢܥܒܪܘܢ ܢܚܠܐ ܕܒܘܨܪ
wqm rdp dwyd hw w'rbem'' gbryn wqmw m'thyn gbryn dpshw wnTrw dl' nebrwn nkhl' dbwtsr
But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so faint that they couldn’t go over the brook Besor.

ܘܐܫܟܚܘ ܓܒܪܐ ܡܨܪܝܐ ܒܚܩܠܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܘܗܝ ܠܘܬ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܝܗܒܘ ܠܗ ܠܚܡܐ ܘܠܥܣ ܘܐܫܩܝܘܗܝ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܘܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܓܘܒܢ̈ܝܢ

They found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he ate; and they gave him water to drink.

ܘܐܟܠ ܘܗܦܟܬ ܪܘܚܗ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܬܠܬܐ ܐܝܡ̈ܡܝܢ ܘܬܠܬܐ ܠܝ̇ܠܘܢ ܠܐ ܐܟܠ ܠܚܡܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܫܬܝ ܡ̈ܝܐ
w'kl whpkth rwkhh elwhy mTl dthlth' 'ymmyn wthlth' lylwn l' 'kl lkhm' wl' 'shthy my'
They gave him a piece of a cake of figs and two clusters of raisins. When he had eaten, his spirit came again to him; for he had eaten no bread, and drank no water for three days and three nights.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܕܘܝܕ ܕܡ̇ܢ ܐܢܬ ܘܡܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܐܬܝܬ ܘܐܡܪ ܥܠܝܡܐ ܡܨܪܝܐ ܐܢܐ ܥܒܕܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܓܒܪܐ ܥܡܠܩܝܐ ܘܫܒܩܢܝ ܡܪܝ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܬܟܪܗܬ ܗܐ ܬܠܬܐ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܢ

David asked him, “To whom do you belong? Where are you from?” He said, “I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days ago I got sick.

ܗܐ ܡܢ ܕܐܬܝܢ ܡܢ ܢܓܒ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܡܢ ܢܓܒ ܕܟܠܒ ܘܡܢ ܨܢܩܠܓ ܕܐܘܩܕܢ ܐ̈ܢܝܢ ܒܢܘܪܐ
h' mn d'thyn mn ngb dyhwd' wmn ngb dklb wmn tsnqlg d'wqdn 'nyn bnwr'
We made a raid on the South of the Cherethites, and on that which belongs to Judah, and on the South of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܚܬ ܐܢܬ ܠܝ ܥܠ ܓܝܣܐ ܗܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܝܡܝ ܠܝ ܒܡܪܝܐ ܕܠܐ ܬܩܛܠܢܝ ܘܠܐ ܬܫܠܡܢܝ ܒܐܝܕܐ ܕܡܪܝ ܘܐܚܘܝܟ ܓܝܣܐ ܗܢܐ
'mr lh dwyd mkhth 'nth ly el gys' hn' 'mr lh ymy ly bmry' dl' thqTlny wl' thshlmny b'yd' dmry w'khwyk gys' hn'
David said to him, “Will you bring me down to this troop?” He said, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me and not deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this troop.”

ܘܐܝܡܐ ܠܗ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܚܬܗ ܘܗܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܫܪܝܢ ܥܠ ܐ̈ܦܝ ܐܪܥܐ ܠܥܣܝܢ ܘܫܬܝܢ ܘܚܕܝܢ ܒܟܠܗ̇ ܒܙܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܕܢܣܒܘ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܘܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ
w'ym' lh dwyd w'khthh wh' hnwn shryn el 'py 're' lesyn wshthyn wkhdyn bklh bzth' rbth' dnsbw mn 're' dplshthy' wmn 're' dyhwd'
When he had brought him down, behold, they were spread around over all the ground, eating, drinking, and dancing, because of all the great plunder that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.

ܘܡܚܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܢ ܨܦܪܐ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܪܡܫܐ ܡܢ ܒܣܬܪܗܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܐܬܦܠܛ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܐܠܐ ܐܪ̈ܒܥܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܪܟܒܘ ܥܠ ܓܡ̈ܠܐ ܘܥܪܩܘ
wmkh' 'nwn dwyd mn tspr' wedm' lrmsh' mn bsthrhwn wl' 'thplT mnhwn 'l' 'rbem'' gbryn drkbw el gml' werqw
David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped from there, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled.

ܘܦܨܝ ܕܘܝܕ ܟܠ ܕܢܣܒܘ ܥܡ̈ܠܩܝܐ ܘܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܢܫ̈ܘܗܝ

David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and David rescued his two wives.

ܘܠܐ ܛܥܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܕܡ ܐܠܐ ܟܘܠ ܡܕܡ ܐܗܦܟ ܕܘܝܕ
wl' Te' lhwn mdm 'l' kwl mdm 'hpk dwyd
There was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither plunder, nor anything that they had taken. David brought them all back.

ܘܕܒܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܟܠܗ̇ ܥܢܐ ܘܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܠܦܘܬ ܩܢܝܢܐ ܗ̇ܘ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܗܢܐ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܥܕܝ ܕܘܝܕ
wdbr dwyd klh en' wthwr' lpwth qnyn' hw w'mrw hn' mdm d'edy dwyd
David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drove before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s plunder.”

ܘܐܬܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܘܬ ܡܐܬܝܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܦܫܘ ܠܡܛܪ ܡܐ̈ܢܐ ܕܐܘܬܒ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܡܛܪ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܒܘܨܪ ܘܢܦܩܘ ܠܐܘܪܥܗ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܘܠܐܘܪܥܐ ܕܥܡܐ ܕܥܡܗ ܘܩܪܒ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܥܡܐ ܘܫܐܠܘ ܒܫܠܡܗܘܢ
w'th' dwyd lwth m'thyn gbryn dpshw lmTr m'n' d'wthb 'nwn lmTr b'wrkh' dbwtsr wnpqw l'wreh ddwyd wl'wre' dem' demh wqrb dwyd wem' wsh'lw bshlmhwn
David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to stay at the brook Besor; and they went out to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him. When David came near to the people, he greeted them.

ܘܥܢܘ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܒܝܫ̈ܐ ܘܥܘ̈ܠܐ ܡܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܐܙܠܘ ܥܡ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܥܠ ܕܠܐ ܐܙܠܘ ܥܡܢ ܠܐ ܬܬܝܗܒ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܬܐ ܡܢ ܒܙܬܐ ܕܦܨܝܢ ܐܠܐ ܢܕܒܪܘܢ ܓܒܪ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܘܒ̈ܢܘܗܝ

Then all the wicked men and worthless fellows of those who went with David answered and said, “Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give them anything of the plunder that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away and depart.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܐ ܬܥܒܕܘܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܐ̈ܚܝܢ ܕܝܗܒ ܠܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܢܛܪܢ ܘܐܫܠܡ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܢ ܓܝܣܐ ܕܐܬܐ ܥܠܝܢ
w'mr dwyd l' thebdwn hkn' 'khyn dyhb ln mry' wnTrn w'shlm b'ydyn gys' d'th' elyn
Then David said, “Do not do so, my brothers, with that which Yahweh has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.

ܡܢܘ ܢܫܡܥ ܠܡܠܬܟܘܢ ܗܕܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܢܬܗ ܕܡ̇ܢ ܕܢܚ̇ܬ ܠܩܪܒܐ ܐܝܟ ܡܢܬܗ ܕܗ̇ܘ ܕܝܬ̇ܒ ܥܠ ܓܢܒ ܡܐ̈ܢܐ ܘܐܟܚܕܐ ܡܦܠܓܝܢ
mnw nshme lmlthkwn hd' mTl dmnthh dmn dnkhth lqrb' 'yk mnthh dhw dythb el gnb m'n' w'kkhd' mplgyn
Who will listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who stays with the baggage. They shall share alike.”

ܘܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܝܘܡܐ ܗ̇ܘ ܘܣܡܗ ܕܘܝܕ ܩܝܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܙܕܩܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝܘܡܢܐ
whw' mn ywm' hw wsmh dwyd qym' hn' wzdq' edm' lywmn'
It was so from that day forward that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.

ܘܐܬܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܨܢܩܠܓ ܘܫܕܪ ܡܢ ܒܙܬܐ ܠܣ̈ܒܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܠܚܒܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܘܪܟܬܐ ܡܢ ܒܙܬܐ ܕܒ̈ܥܠܕܒܒܘܗܝ ܕܡܪܝܐ
w'th' dwyd ltsnqlg wshdr mn bzth' lsb' dyhwd' wlkhbryhwn w'mr h' lkwn bwrkth' mn bzth' dbeldbbwhy dmry'
When David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, “Behold, a present for you from the plunder of Yahweh’s enemies.”

ܘܠܕܒܪܟܝܠ ܘܠܕܒܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܝܪܚܡܠ ܘܠܕܒܩ̈ܘܪܝܐ ܕܩܝ̈ܢܝܐ

to those who were in Racal, to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,

ܘܠܕܒܚܪܡܐ ܘܠܕܒܪܒܥܫܢ ܘܠܕܒܬܥܢܟ

to those who were in Hormah, to those who were in Borashan, to those who were in Athach,

ܘܠܕܒܚܒܪܘܢ ܘܠܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܬܪ̈ܘܬܐ ܕܗܠܟ ܬܡܢ ܕܘܝܕ ܗܘ ܘܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ

to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men used to stay.
